* The operations led to the prevention of the illicit commercialization of more than 100 cubic meters of wood in three departments of the country.
* The recovery of these elements contributes to the protection of strategic ecosystems and national biodiversity.
Within the framework of operations aimed at the protection of natural resources and the fight against environmental crimes, troops of the Navy Infantry Brigade No. 1, attached to the Caribbean Naval Force, in coordination with environmental authorities, reported the recovery of approximately 101.5 cubic meters of wood, equivalent to about 61 tons, which were transported irregularly in the departments of Chocó, Cesar department and Bolivar.
The results were obtained through river and land control operations, carried out in different regions of the country. In Bellavista (Chocó), 49.5 cubic meters of wood of the güino specimen were recovered; in La Gloria (Cesar), 34 cubic meters of carob-type wood were seized; and in the municipalities of San Juan de Nepomuceno, El Carmen de Bolívar and Arroyohondo (Bolívar), 18 cubic meters of wood of the roble and campano specimens were recovered.
The elements were put into custody of the authorities to carry out the corresponding administrative and judicial procedures. No arrests were reported during the operations.
These acts represent an important step in the protection of the Nation's environmental heritage, by preventing the illicit exploitation and commercialization of forest specimens that play a fundamental role in the conservation of ecosystems.
