Alias Daniel, with about 5 years of criminal experience, would be in charge of activities related to extortion and the coordination of meetings to coerce the inhabitants in this area of the department of Antioquia.
Within the framework of the Democracy 2026 Plan, troops of the Infantry Battalion No. 10 Coronel Atanasio Girardot of the Fourth Brigade, with the support of the Aviation Mobility and Maneuver Battalion No. 7, and in an inter-institutional manner with the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of Antioquia and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office, reported the arrest in flagrante delicto alias Daniel or Político, alleged pseudo-political ringleader of the GAO Clan del Golfo Cartel, in the village of El Amparo, municipality of Ituango.
The arrest occurred when the individual was traveling through the vicinity of this village carrying a sack that inside contained 40 explosive rods, 98 nonelectric detonators and 300 meters of security fuse, elements that, apparently, would be used for the execution of terrorist acts against the Military Forces and the inhabitants. A cell phone was in the same way found during the operation.
This result of the military operation directly hits the criminal plans of this illegal structure, especially in its pseudo-political subsystem. According to military intelligence information, the action managed to anticipate and neutralize an alleged plan to hit the electoral activity of next March 8, taking into account the calls that this group would be making to the inhabitants in order to hinder the free development of democratic exercise and prevent the right to vote in rural areas of the municipalities of Ituango, Peque, Sabanalarga and Toledo.
The arrested person and the items found were put into custody of the authorities in order to conduct the corresponding judicial process.
Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to security, democracy and the protection of the inhabitants in the department of Antioquia.
