His arrest neutralizes terrorist intentions and disrupts the logistical and criminal resources of the ELN organized armed group in Santander.
Within the framework of military operations, troops of the Chicamocha Military GAULA (anti-extortion and anti-kidnapping group) of the Fifth Brigade in coordination with the National Police and through a search procedure carried out in the village of Monte Chiquito, municipality of Tona, department of Santander, reported the arrest of alias Jorge, alleged member of the Terrorist Support Networks of the Northeastern War Front of the GAO ELN.
During the operation, eight firearms were seized, including four shotguns, two revolvers and two pistols, as well as ammunition of different calibres, communication radios, elements of military accessories, propaganda alluding to the ELN and pamphlets used to intimidate the inhabitants.
In the same way, the troops found approximately 32 kilograms of type R-1 explosive, which were destroyed in controlled conditions on the place by specialized personnel of the Combat Engineer Battalion No. 5. This quantity retained an important volume of explosive elements, which was a high-impact threat to the inhabitants, the Military Forces and the strategic construction of the department.
According to the military intelligence work, the arrested exercised criminal influence in Bucaramanga, Tona and Charta, where he allegedly participated in intimidation, extortion and logistical support activities for the ELN. In addition, he is accused for his alleged participation in the burning of a vehicle, the incineration of a house, an attempted homicide, the distribution of intimidating pamphlets and the planning of a possible terrorist action with explosives in the region. It in the same way reports an ongoing investigation into the alleged crime of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possessing firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition.
Through this result, Colombian National Army weakens the criminal and logistical resources of the ELN in Santander, preventing this war element from being used to affect the inhabitants or the Military Forces. Thus, the military operations continue in the region, to protect the security of Colombians and for this, citizens are invited to denounce any action that threatens tranquility through line 147 of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) or line 107 against terrorism.
