A powerful military operation was carried out in the municipality of Supía, where 11 individuals were arrested, they were in charge of exploiting 700 grams of gold monthly, which would have a value of more than 200 million pesos.
Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, troops of the Infantry Battalion N.° 22 Batalla de Ayacucho, attached to the Eighth Brigade, together with the Civil Security Battalion N.° 5, in coordination with the Carabineros and Environmental Protection Section of the department of Caldas, the Technical Research Corps (CTI) and the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Caldas (Corpocaldas), executed an important military operation against illegal mining in the village Bajo Guascal de Supía, department of Caldas.
Through this operation, it was possible to disable two mining production units, four motor pumps, more than 100 meters of hose, barrels, shovels, spades and washing gutters used for illicit exploitation. Approximately 700 grams of gold were extracted of the rudimentary mine on a monthly basis, with an estimated amount of 224 million pesos.
It is through this result that Colombian National Army prevents environmental damage from spreading, so that these illegal practices no longer disturb one of the most important water sources in the country, such as the Cauca River and, therefore, the fauna and flora that surrounds it.
Those arrested were put into custody of the authority, charged with the crime of illicit exploitation of mining deposits and other materials, in accordance with article 332 of Law 2111 of 2021 of the Colombian Criminal Code.
