These individuals would have been damaging the Amoyá River in the La López sector for six months.
Two individuals were arrested in flagrante delicto by troops of the 17th General Domingo Caicedo Infantry Battalion of the Sixth Brigade, in coordination with the National Police, after being caught in the village of San Alfonso in the municipality of Chaparral, department of Tolima, carrying out illegal mineral extraction activities that directly hit the river ecosystem.
Military intelligence led to the finding of the individuals, who did not have the permits to carry out mining exploitation. During the procedure, a dredger, a suction pump, a metal screen, and an engine were seized, materials that would cost approximately $7 million pesos. The authorities established that the individuals extracted about 100 grams of gold per month.
The men were put into custody of the Prosecutor's Office 163 for the crimes of illegal exploitation of mining deposits and other materials.
Here, the Sixth Brigade invite the inhabitants to denounce these environmental crimes that hit the environment and put at risk the water sources of the region.
