The quick reaction of the troops on the ground and the timely support of Colombian National Army Aviation led to the evacuation in record time of four minors, whose ages range 2 and 6 years old, after being hit by the activation of a minefield while they were playing.
In a humanitarian support mission, Colombian National Army deployed its resources of the ground and air military operation to provide support in the emergency reported in the village of La Laguna, municipality of Olaya Herrera, department of Nariño, where four minors were hit by the activation of an area planted, apparently, by members of the residual armed group, GAO-r, Coordinadora Nacional Ejército Bolivariano, Alfonso Cano structure.
This reprehensible action is a violation of International Humanitarian Law by the use of illegal means and methods of war that attack the life, integrity and free movement of people, deliberately exposing the inhabitants.
Colombian National Army is calling on international organizations and human rights defenders to join the rejection of these criminal acts perpetrated by groups outlaw, who continue to finance their acts through illegal activities.
Upon learning of the situation, soldiers of the Ground Operations Battalion No. 16 of the Hercules Task Force spared no effort and, in record time, with the support of the Aviation Battalion of Mobility and Maneuver No. 3 of Colombian National Army Aviation, carried out the air evacuation of the four injured minors, a relative and a doctor, who were taken to the hospital of San Andrés de Tumaco to receive specialized medical assistance; in an action that evidenced not only the reaction capacity of the troops, but in the same way the permanent commitment of Colombian National Army to the protection of life, especially in territories where the acts of illegal structures continue to directly hit the inhabitants, in this case children and their families.
