As part of the military operation, three alleged members of this illegal group were surrendered and 12 others were arrested.
Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plan, framed in the National Government's Security and Defense Policy, soldiers of the Seventh Division of the Army, with the support of the Attorney General's Office, dealt a severe blow to the organized armed group, GAO in Spanish, Clan del Golfo, in the department of Sucre and Bajo Cauca, Antioquia.
In the first operation carried out last Monday, September 25, in a rural area of the municipality of Valdivia, troops of the Aquiles Joint Task Force arrived and arrested alias Darío, alleged ringleader of the Focused Criminal Component of the Julio Cesar Vargas substructure, of the Clan del Golfo. In the same operation, the next day two more individuals surrendered to justice, and two others were arrested, including one who was injured and was assisted by the combat nurses of the military unit.
Alias Darío was wanted for the crimes of illegal carrying of weapons, trafficking and carrying garments for exclusive use of the Military Forces.
This individual would in the same way be responsible for managing the finances of the substructure, the product of extortions against merchants and the control of microtrafficking. He would in the same way be in charge of the movements of weapons and other logistical activities within the substructure.
In the same sector, the soldiers engaged a combat against alleged members of the aforementioned illegal organization, resulting in the arrest of eight more and the surrender to justice of another alleged member of this substructure. In this military operation there was in the same way an illegal hiding place in which 14 rifles, a submachinegun, two handguns, more than 7,000 cartridges of different calibers, magazines, military accessory material, as well as eight cell phones, three communication radios and a large amount of medicines.
Meanwhile, in another military operation, troops of Infantry Battalion No.33 Batalla de Junín, which are conducted in the department of Sucre, arrested three individuals, members of the Uldar Cardona Rueda substructure, of the focused criminal component of the GAO Clan del Golfo, for the crime of extortion and homicide, in the municipalities of Guaranda Majagual and Magangué.
Those arrested, as well as the material found, put into custody of the authorities to process the respective prosecution process.
