The cargo, allegedly belonging to the Comandos de Frontera structure, was transported in a bongo-type tug boat and was hidden in a false bulkhead built inside the ship.
In the framework of military operations carried out within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, troops of the Combat Engineer Battalion No. 27, of the Twenty-Seventh Brigade of Colombian National Army, reported the finding and confiscation of more than 12.5 tons of marijuana in the municipality of Puerto Asís, department of Putumayo, dealing a powerful blow to the illicit activities of the residual organized armed groups that commit crimes in this region of the country.
The operation took place in the La Esmeralda dock sector, Cocay village, where the troops inspected the boat during the military operations. During a thorough inspection of the boat, the soldiers discovered a hidden compartment, inside which more than 12.5 tons of marijuana were hidden, which they planned to transport undetected. Both the drug and the boat were put into custody of the authorities.
According to military intelligence information, this shipment would belong to the residual organized armed group Segunda Marquetalia Structura Comandos de Frontera, a criminal organization that uses the river routes of the department of Putumayo to transport large quantities of narcotics to other departments of the country and, subsequently, to international markets.
This important result of the military operation was supported by the Colombian Navy and the prosecution of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the National Police, enabling the corresponding legal procedures and joint and inter-institutional actions to combat drug trafficking.
Through this operation, Colombian National Army prevents a significant amount of drugs from reaching the illegal distribution networks, significantly hitting the logistical and financial resources of this criminal structure. The confiscation represents a loss to the illicit activities of the Residual Organized Armed Group Segunda Marquetalia Structura Comandos de Frontera, estimated at more than 25 million dollars abroad, resources that will stop entering this organization and won’t be used to strengthen its criminal acts.
