Within the framework of military operations in the Ayacucho Plan, soldiers of the Vulcano Task Force find and destroy an illegal petroleum refinery, with more than 1,500 gallons of the so-called pategrillo, in the municipality of Tibú.
After a work of several months, the military arrived at the village of Las Palmas, where they found constructions with the capacity to store more than 6,000 gallons of fuel, rudimentary open-air pools, motor pumps and blowing machines.
The environmental damage in the area is devastating; more than one hectare of the land had been occupied to install this complex specialized in the clandestine production of rudimentary fuel.
According to intelligence information, the petroleum is stolen from the pipeline through illicit valves, then distilled and transformed into what is known as pategrillo, a rudimentary fuel used for production of cocaine.
Colombian National Army continues to carry out operations that weaken the threat in the department of Norte de Santander, especially in the Catatumbo region.
