The elements found would be used to attack the inhabitants and the military units that provide security in the region.
Soldiers of the Light Infantry Battalion No. 15 General Francisco de Paula Santander, of the Thirtieth Brigade of Colombian National Army, found an illegal hiding place that would belong to the Comandante Diego group of the organized armed group ELN, in a rural area of the municipality of Ábrego.
At the place were found by troops: 80 kilos of R1 explosive, 160 detonators, 142 meters of detonating cord and 60 meters of slow safety fuse. The illegal hideout was found next to a flag of the armed group.
The result of this operation hits the armed wing of the terrorist structure that commits crimes in the Catatumbo region, which, through the preparation and use of explosives intend to indiscriminately hit the inhabitants and attack against the strategic resources of the nation.
Having complied with the security protocols, technicians of the Explosives and Demolitions Group, EXDE, of Colombian National Army, conducted the controlled destruction of the elements.
It should be noted that due to the destructive power the elements had, if they had been used by the armed group, it would have caused irreversible damage.
This type of acts by armed groups constitutes a serious violation of human rights and International Humanitarian Law, putting at risk the life, integrity and security of the inhabitants and their property.
