In 2025, the Ayacucho Battalion has carried out six military operations against this environmental problem, which has resulted in loses of almost 1,200 million pesos.

In a military operation to protect natural resources, the 22nd Infantry Battalion and the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office intervened in a mining area in the municipality of Norcasia, department of Caldas, which hits this illegal activity by more than 180 million pesos.

Through this military operation, carried out in the village of Cadenales, on the Las Pavas ravine, the soldiers found a dredge, a washing installation, a fuel engine and different materials for carrying out the illicit activity.

In the same way, during the inspection of the place, the soldiers found 8 engines, 6 motor pumps, 2 AC adaptors and 2 metal towers, materials that would cost 39 million pesos.

In the place, they extracted 62 grams of gold monthly, valued at 26 million pesos; according to the authority, this illegal income was hit by more than 180 million pesos.

It is noteworthy that the water tributary flows into the La Miel River, which is hit by excavation interventions that generate alterations in the ecosystem.
