Commemorating World Environment Day, Colombian National Army planted more than 8,000 trees in a large simultaneous reforestation activity carried out in the municipalities of Cubarral and Puerto López, department of Meta, and in San José del Guaviare.
This massive planting was led by soldiers of the Fourth Division, in coordination with territorial authorities, public and private institutions, and local communities, as part of a comprehensive conservation strategy that seeks to restore strategic ecosystems, strengthen biodiversity and promote environmental awareness.
The activity was carried out by the Support and Combat Battalion for the 22nd Service, the Joaquín París Infantry Battalion No. 19, the General Serviez Infantry Battalion No. 20 and the Comprehensive operation and Development Support Battalion No. 4. These operations are part of the Amazonas work line of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Strategic Plan, aimed at addressing the environmental challenges of the region through restoration, sustainability and protection projects.
Meta department is home to vital ecosystems such as the Sumapaz Paramo, an essential source of water for thousands of Colombians. At the same time, Guaviare is part of the Colombian Amazonas region, a key territory in the fight against deforestation and climate change.
The planting of these 8,000 trees significantly contributes to capture carbon, the prevention of erosion, the protection of watersheds and the strengthening of ecological routes. In addition, it promotes environmental education and the active participation of communities.
“We continue to work for generating powerful operations that lead to protect and preserve the ecosystem. Today, on Environment Day, we send a message of awareness to all Colombians: taking care of fauna and flora is everyone's responsibility,” said Lieutenant Colonel Diego Cadavid, executive and second commander of the Integrated operation and Development Support Battalion No.4.
Through its territorial battalions and the Faith in Colombia program, the Fourth Division of Colombian National Army reaffirms its role as a strategic ally in environmental protection, promoting sustainable development and strengthening the resilience of communities to current climate challenges.
