The rapid finding of these explosives, whose destructive power exceeded a radius of 200 meters, leads to preventing a tragedy of great proportions, protecting the inhabitants and the members of the Military Forces in this area of the country.
Colombian National Army through the troops of the Ground Operations Battalion No. 14, of the Hercules Task Force, in a powerful action, reported the finding and controlled destruction of a hideout of explosives in the village Arenal, rural area of the municipality of Barbacoas.
This illicit hideout contained approximately 100 kilograms of explosives and 52 means of activation. According to intelligence work, this element would belong to the National Coordination Structure of the so called Bolivarian Army.
These explosives would have been made with the purpose of attacking security forces units and causing damage to state buildings. The timely reaction of the Military Forces prevented these elements from being used to generate fear and intimidation among the inhabitants of the South Pacific of Nariño.
