These items and the vehicle in which they were being transported had been stolen from a gas distribution company.
Military intelligence work and in-depth operations, led the Ninth Brigade of Colombian National Army, through soldiers of the High Mountain Battalion No. 9, to neutralize the terrorist plans of the Jorge Suárez Briceño Bloc, which apparently planned to attack the Military Forces and the inhabitants by using gas cylinders loaded with explosives.
The result of the military operation occurred after the denunciation, in April, of the theft of a vehicle belonging to a gas distribution company in the village of Las Brisas, municipality of Algeciras, department of Huila; the theft was perpetrated by members of this residual organized armed group.
After several months of follow-up, the soldiers established a strategic observation checkpoint in the village of El Paraíso, where they discovered the vehicle that was covered with a black plastic, and in which there were 47 gas cylinders, elements that would be used for the manufacture of improvised explosive devices with high destructive power.
In coordination with the authorities and after the implementation of the security protocols, the EXDE team ruled out the existence of explosives, so it proceeded to transfer the elements and hand them over to the judicial authorities.
This important result prevents possible attacks against military units, public facilities and the inhabitants, and reflects the determined commitment of the Colombian National Army to the security and stability of the department of Huila, reaffirming that soldiers do not spare efforts when it is necessary to confront the actors that generate violence.
