In a military operation carried out by troops of the Seventh Brigade of Colombian National Army, with the support of the Colombian Aerospace Force and the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, the threat of two armed men were neutralized at the moment when they were trying to collect an extortion in the village of Santa Elena, in the municipality of Puerto Gaitán, Meta. The criminals posed as members of the residual organized armed group, frente 12 Isaías Pardo, in order to intimidate the inhabitants.
This powerful operation was carried out within the framework of fulfilling the constitutional mission of protecting the life, honor and property of Colombians. It was possible thanks to the timely information provided by the community, as well as to the coordinated work of military intelligence and the rapid reaction capacity of the troops.
During the operation, a second corporal was slightly injured. Despite this, he continues in command of the tactical maneuver that led to the arrest of the two criminals, both of foreign nationality, who kept the inhabitants of the region in fear through threats and monetary extortion.
In accordance with the established protocols and due to securing the area, the arrested, who were injured, received first aid of the troops. However, one of the individuals died on the way due to medical complications, despite the efforts made to preserve his life. The case was immediately brought to the assistance of the judicial authorities, who are already carrying out the corresponding investigations.
The Fourth Division of Colombian National Army reiterates its commitment to respect and commitment to human rights and international humanitarian law, and will continue to carry out operations in the southern department of Meta to combat all expressions of criminality that threaten the safety and well-being of the inhabitants.
