Thanks to military intelligence information, troops of the Seventh Brigade found and destroyed an illegal hideout of explosives in a rural area of the municipality of Mesetas, department of Meta, seeking to protect the lives of children, adolescents, peasants and workers who may have been victims of anti-personnel mines manufactured by these criminals.
In a clandestine hiding place belonging to the residual organized armed group Structura Mart铆n Villa, they tried to hide among the abundant vegetation war material and enough supplies for the manufacture of 1,000 anti-personnel mines, which posed a serious threat to the physical well-being of the peasant and indigenous communities and in the same way to the environment of the region.
During the military operation, more than 100 kilograms of explosives composed of ammonium nitrate and heavy petroleum (ANFO), detonating cord, slow fuse, activation systems, improvised devices in different stages of assembly, as well as elements of military accessories belonging to the residual armed group were found by troops. This war material was hidden in a wooded area of difficult access and its controlled destruction was carried out by the explosive ordnance group (EOD) of the 29th Infantry Battalion Lieutenant General Germ谩n Ocampo Herrera, following all safety protocols.
The Mart铆n Villa criminal structure, which commits crimes mainly in the southern department of Meta and adjacent areas of the department of Guaviare, has been using this type of improvised explosive devices to beat the inhabitants, restrict mobility in rural areas, attack Colombian National Army and maintain illegal control of strategic routes for drug trafficking.
This result of the military operation represents a powerful blow to the logistical and terrorist resources of this residual armed group, and reflects the commitment of Colombian National Army to neutralizing threats that disturb the security and well-being of Colombians.
