The protection of the environment and the conservation of natural resources have become a priority mission for Colombian National Army. In compliance with this commitment, and under the environmental strategy Plan Amazonia, the soldiers of the Eighteenth Brigade, carry out a wide deployment of environmental actions in the department of Arauca.
Within the framework of these activities, the soldiers carried out 265 environmental activities, planting more than 20 thousand trees of native specimens in different rural areas of the department of Arauca and in the village of Samoré, municipality of Toledo, department of Norte de Santander. These efforts directly contribute to the recovery of degraded areas and to the mitigation of the effects of deforestation in the Orinoquia region.
Colombian National Army has oriented part of its missions of the military operation to the care and preservation of the natural environment, permanently countering environmental crimes generated by common crime and by armed groups organized outlaw.
Thanks to the coordinated work with municipal mayors, community action boards and Corporinoquia, the Eighteenth Brigade has strengthened the reforestation processes, planting specimens such as samán, guayacán amarillo, hobo, cañafistula, apamate and oití, among others, which contribute to the ecological restoration and balance of local ecosystems.
In a complementary way, during the environmental operation in 2025, Colombian National Army has nine active nurseries in the department of Arauca, where the germination and production of native plants typical of the Orinoquia is ongoing, working for the sustainability of reforestation campaigns in the medium and long term.
In the same way, the troops have established checkpoints on the main roads of the department, with the purpose of preventing and mitigating the illegal trafficking of fauna and flora, reinforcing the protection of the environmental heritage of the region.
The Eighteenth Brigade will continue to work decisively for the conservation of biodiversity, planting not only trees, but in the same way environmental awareness and hope for future generations in the Colombian Orinoquia.
