Colombian National Army strengthens its emergency response resources

Ejército Nacional fortalece sus capacidades de respuesta ante emergencias

In order to strengthen the preparation and military operations capacity of their troops, rescue soldiers take a specialized training workshop at the Military Fort of Tolemaida.

The activity is led by instructors of the 80th Disaster Care and Prevention Engineer Battalion, in coordination with the Helicopter Battalion and the Fire Brigade of the municipality of Carmen de Apicalá, who contribute their experience in risk management and the management of critical situations.

This instruction addressed to officers and non-commissioned officers recently transferred to the Brigade and its Battalions seeks to unify procedures and the response capacity of military personnel.

During the activities, the participants received theoretical training and activities in pre-hospital care as first responders, recognition of rescue elements, aquatic rescues, stretcher, shoring techniques, cutting and penetration, forest fire control, management of CBRN events (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) and night exercises, which simulate real emergency environments.

This training manages to improve inter-institutional coordination, reinforce technical knowledge and strengthen the necessary skills to act in a timely, safe and efficient manner in different risk situations that may hit the inhabitants.
