Colombian National Army strengthens the prevention of the recruitment of minors in the departments of Meta, Guaviare and Vaupés

Ejército Nacional fortalece la prevención del reclutamiento de menores en Meta, Guaviare y Vaupés

Within the framework of the campaign Protecting dreams in the land of plains, rivers and culture, the Comprehensive Action and Development Support Battalion No. 4 strengthens its commitment to the protection of the inhabitants, especially children and adolescents, who today face risks that threaten their dreams and their future.

In rural and remote areas of the region, soldiers of the Comprehensive Action, through its Faith in Colombia program and the Colombia Estéreo radio stations, carried out education activities and dialogue spaces, among other strategies aimed at preventing forced recruitment and other situations that violate children's rights.

In these spaces, we work directly with caregivers, parents, teachers and community leaders, who are provided with valuable information that can help identify risks and, in many cases, save a child or adolescent from being a victim of recruitment.

These acts seek to increase awareness and provide families with tools to protect their children, promoting safe environments where education, culture and values prevail over any form of violence.

As part of this strategy, some early warning signs of possible recruitment cases are presented:

   * Sudden changes in behavior.

   * Isolation or family distancing.

   * School dropout.

   * Receipt of money or items of unknown origin.

   * Frequent contact with people outside their environment.

   * Unusual use of devices or social networks.

The commander of the Comprehensive Action and Development Support Battalion No. 4, Major Nelson Andrés Velásquez Sánchez, said in this regard: “Our commitment is to accompany communities not only from safety ns security, but in the same way from prevention and the protection of their dreams. We work so that every child and adolescent grows up in a safe environment."

Colombian National Army makes a special call to parents, community leaders and all citizens to be attentive, and to denounce any situation that puts the integrity of minors at risk, through line 141 of the Colombian Family Wellbeing Institute, a channel available for timely assistance and the protection of life.

Because protecting children means protecting the future of the country, Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to the defense of human rights and the construction of a safe territory.
