The Colombian Navy, through its units deployed in the San Andres and Providencia archipelago, saved the life of a fisherman who was fishing 23 nautical miles south-west of San Andres Island, who apparently fainted when he ran out of oxygen moments when he was immersed in the water.
The emergency was reported by two fishermen who were in the area and who initially provided first aid to this person, to be subsequently evacuated aboard a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coast Guard Station of San Andres to the dock of this Naval Unit in San Andres Island. Once there, he was received by Colombian Red Cross personnel and transferred to Clarence Lynd Newball Memorial Hospital for specialized care.
The Colombian Navy, through the Caribbean Naval Force, confirms its commitment to safeguard human life at sea, guarantee historical fishing rights and protect the sea resources of the island region, while calling on the community to implement safety measures during navigation, especially the use of life jackets and the report of activities to the Maritime Traffic Control Station, in order to reduce the risk of emergencies at sea.
