Colombian Navy and local authorities intensify operations for environmental preservation in the Magdalena River

In order to contribute to the preservation of sea ecosystems, the Colombian Navy, in coordination with the Magdalena Regional Autonomous Corporation, intensified maritime patrol activities in the areas of restoration of coral reserves, which are protected by the authorities of the Santa Marta district.

Units of the Santa Marta Primary Coast Guard Station deployed all their operational Resources in order to comply with the environmental protection measure adopted by the Naval Institution in this department, since it is necessary to strengthen operations to prevent ships from transiting through protected areas with a high variety of sea specimens, corals and seagrass meadows in recovery process.

In the same way, the Santa Marta Coast Guard crewmen continue to carry out comprehensive maritime security operations and, in coordination with local institutions, verify the documentation of locals and tourists who enjoy the end-of-year time in this region of the country.

The Colombian Navy will continue to carried out and support activities that led the conservation and protection of fauna and flora, working for control and surveillance over the areas, coasts and protected areas of the Colombian Caribbean, effectively countering those illegal practices that threaten the environment and natural resources and invites people to report any illegal action through the toll-free line 146, available 24 hours a day.
