Colombian Navy arrives in Alta Guajira with the first humanitarian aid

Armada de Colombia llega a la Alta Guajira con las primeras ayudas humanitarias

About 70 tons of food and basic necessities are expected to be distributed to these communities.

After these distributions activities, the Amphibious Landing Ship ARC Golfo de Urabá will set sail for Puerto Estrella.

With the first humanitarian aid, the Colombian Navy arrived in the communities of Puerto López and Karasúa in Punta Espada - Alta Guajira, to contribute to the mitigation of the damages facing communities due to the second rainy season that the country is experiencing.

By sea and land, the Sailors of Colombia with their dual resources were the support to reach these remote areas of Colombian territory, with the aid obtained after an effective coordination conducted by the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Red Cross, the Civil Defense, Colombian National Army, the Government of the Department of La Guajira, the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing – ICBF, the National Police, the World Food Program - WFP, and other organizations.

At the moment, the leaders of Punta Espada and Castilletes receive about 50 tons of aid in Puerto López, which will be taken from there to these villages, for its final distribution to the families in need. In Karasúa, the Sailors and navy units distributed 20 tons of aid and 40 thousand liters of drinking water to the people, bringing hope to children, youth and adults.

It should be noted that the complexity of the terrain and the location of these communities require robust logistical support for the distribution of these basic necessities and groceries. The Colombian Navy ship, which will be in this place for two days, will set sail next Friday heading to Puerto Estrella to continue the distribution of the aid provided in this department.
