As part of the comprehensive maritime security and control operations, the Colombian Navy attended the emergency of a ship with remittances, which sank near a hotel 30 minutes by boat of the Buenaventura pier.
The operation began when the manager of a nearby hotel alerted the Colombian Navy about the sinking of a boat in the area. Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit - URR of the Coast Guard Station of Buenaventura, which was carrying out patrolling work, went to the place to verify the situation.
At the scene, the five crew members who were safe and in good health swam to the Coast Guard unit and were pulled out of the water.
One of the crewmen said that the boat began its transit of the District of Buenaventura to the municipality of Juanchaco with the remittances. However, during the navigation, the ship lost propulsion, which caused it to be dragged towards the coast by the heavy waves.
Subsequently, the prompt reaction of the Colombian Sailors, in coordination with the maritime authorities and civilian ships, led to the collection of the material they were carrying on board the ship of the water, to be taken to Juanchaco.
