Every 9 August the world celebrates the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, who become the guardians of the most biodiverse territories on the planet.

This day the Colombian Navy accompanied the indigenous communities of the sub-regions of the Montes de Mar铆a, la Sabana, la Mojana Sucre帽a and San Jorge, in the framework of the celebration of the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, as an opportunity to commemorate these communities and their knowledge.

The event that took place in the village El Reparo, a rural area of the municipality of Palmitos in the department of Sucre, featured an exhibition of handicrafts and ancestral and cultural samples from 11 Councils of the indigenous communities of the departments of Bol铆var and Sucre settled in the five subregions.

This event was attended by the Navy Battalion No.14, attached to the Navy Brigade No.1 and the National Police, and highlighted the great cultural diversity, traditions and unique languages of indigenous communities.

In the same way, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Guzm谩n Rojas, Commander of the Navy Battalion No.14, spoke with the authorities of the indigenous councils, to learn first - hand the social and health needs of these communities so that, in coordination with municipal and governmental administrations, operations can be carried out to contribute to the improvement of their quality of life.
