For 16 years, the International Day for Awareness on Anti-Personnel Mines has been commemorated worldwide, which is why within the framework of this commemoration and with the purpose of promoting Mine Risk education spaces, the Colombian Navy and the Government of Sucre carried out an awareness activity in a shopping center in Sincelejo, Sucre, where a sample of the resources of the Humanitarian Demining company was shown.
Complying with all biosecurity measures to prevent the contagion and spread of COVID-19, citizens interact with officials of the departmental Government Secretariat and crew members of the Colombian Navy who provided them with the necessary tools to identify this type of explosive devices and how to act in case they are found in their territories.
In the same way, they know the Resources of the Navy of Colombia to facilitate the clearance of anti-personnel mines in the sub-region of the Montes de Mar铆a, achieving to date, more than five million seven hundred square meters free from suspicion of anti-personnel mines, in 17 municipalities of the departments of Sucre and Bol铆var, in addition to neutralizing 230 explosives that were in the sub-region, leading the safe return of displaced persons.
Over the past ten years, about 170 men who are part of the Humanitarian Demining Company operationally attached to the Navy Brigade No.1 in Corozal, Sucre, have been responsible for carrying out the clearance work in the subregion of the Montes de Mar铆a, with the purpose of conducting the process of making the region a zone free of explosive devices.
In the activity, four navy infantry victims of anti-personnel mines shared with the citizens their testimonies, promoting new contributions, reflections and stories in relation to this problem.
