Colombian Navy deals new blow to drug trafficking in the Colombian Caribbean

Armada de Colombia propina nuevo golpe al narcotráfico en el Caribe colombiano

The Colombian Navy, in coordination with the Southern Interagency Joint Task Force (JIAF-S), dealt a powerful blow to drug trafficking in the Colombian Caribbean due to the interception of a Go Fast type speedboat.

The operation, which took place approximately 80 nautical miles northwest of the Gulf of Morrosquillo, began thanks to a naval intelligence alert that detected the departure of the ship with four outboard motors and a possible destination to Honduras. The aerial detection led to the guidance of a Rapid Reaction Unit -URR - of the Coast Guard Station of Coveñas, which successfully completed the interception.

The operation concluded with the arrival of the units to port at midnight, and the finding of 180 bales of illicit substances weighing 4.5 tons, which, apparently, would belong to the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, in addition to the arrest of five crew members of Colombian nationality, being put into custody of the authorities.

Through this result, an economic loss of close to $216 million was possible against drug trafficking organizations, preventing the marketing of approximately 11.2 million doses on the streets of the region.
