Within the framework of the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19 conducted by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Colombian Navy has arranged its rapid reaction units throughout the territory, to accompany the departmental Health Secretariats that require security support and transfer of vaccines to places that are difficult to access.
Zaragoza, Macedonia, Mocagua, San Martin de Amacayacu, La Milagrosa, Puerto Nariño and El Vergel in the Amazonas, are some of the communities where the Navy of Colombia has come; it has in the same way provided support in remote areas of Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca, Arauca, Puerto Leguízamo in Putumayo, Puerto Carreño in Vichada, Sincelejo, Sucre and Bolívar, where they have led security operations and logistical support with transport, to contribute to the vaccines distribution received in the places provided by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
This year, the institution has assisted 253 requests for support throughout the country and has made 221 River, Naval, Air and land movements for this purpose. More than 1,800 crew members have taken part in the activities, adding 31 hours of navigation to provide safety to the vaccines in the different phases activated by the National Government.
Thanks to the work that the Colombian Navy has done for decades protecting the interests of Colombians in these remote places, where it is only possible to reach by sea or river, the access to vaccines has been facilitated for its inhabitants, through the work of the Naval Forces of the Caribbean, Pacific, South, East and the specific command of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.
