In a river control and surveillance operation, the Colombian Navy found and destroyed in controlled conditions an improvised explosive device in the Amanavén sector, rural area of Inírida, department of Guainía.
The action was carried out by units of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No. 50, through the explosives and demining team -EXDE - of the National Navy, who detected the device during a tactical procedure at a checkpoint on the Guaviare River.
After the on-site review, and with the support of an anti-explosive trained dog, the threat was confirmed. The device, conditioned in a gas cylinder and connected to an initiation system by wiring, was eliminated by a controlled detonation, preventing any loss to the troops and the inhabitants who transit through this area.
According to intelligence information, the device would have been installed by members of the José Daniel Pérez Carrero Front of the Armed Organized Group ELN, as retaliation for the operation carried out by the authorities against the illegal extraction of mining deposits, an activity that endangers public health and seriously affects the environment.
