Colombian Navy distributes drinking water and evacuates tons of debris

As part of the commitment to the comprehensive well-being of the Raizal inhabitants, in the last month more than 188,000 liters of drinking water have been distributed to the most vulnerable families of Santa Catalina and Providencia.

 

The Navy of Colombia through its Amphibious landing ship ARC Golfo de Morrosquillo, has transported building materials, and most of 188,000 liters of drinking water, in support of the residents of the islands of San Andr茅s y Providencia, with the goal of obtain their full recovery after the devastation caused by the transit of the hurricane Iota.

 

In the same way, the Colombian Navy has extracted more than 62 tons of garbage and debris generated in Santa Catalina, due to the demolition works and adaptation of lots for the construction of new houses. Waste is taken in the ARC Golfo de Morrosquillo, initially to Providencia and later to the city of Cartagena.

 

These different humanitarian assistance and debris collection operations on the islands are part of the joint work conducted by the National Disaster Risk Management Unit -UNGRD-, the Ministry of Health, the Military Forces, the Colombian Red Cross, the Civil Defense, and other State agencies at the regional and national levels that are part of the National System for Disaster Prevention and Care -SNPAD-.
