In a humanitarian assistance operation, the Colombian Navy carried out the river evacuation of an indigenous woman and her newborn baby, of the San Juan Coast, in the department of Valle del Cauca to the urban area of Docordó, in the department of Chocó.
Thanks to the approach of the units of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.24 to the indigenous people of Chachajo, the call was timely attended and first aid was provided to a woman from this indigenous reservation, who, after six hours of labor, was in a delicate state of health.
A combat nurse of the ARC ship TN Mario Alonso Villegas García provided medical assistance to the woman, who had weak vital signs and bleeding, reporting to stabilize her to subsequently start the river displacement on board this unit, towards the municipality of Docordó, in the department of Chocó.
After 22 kilometers of river navigation, the 20-year-old woman and the baby were taken by the navy men of the Colombian Navy to the Docordó health post, where they provided the necessary specialized medical assistance.
