Colombian Navy finds drugs being transported to Central America

In less than a week, 6,998 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride have been found in the Colombian Caribbean, preventing drug trafficking organizations from receiving nearly US$ 236 million.

Over the weekend, Colombian Navy units conducted a maritime interdiction operation on a Go Fast boat named Salmo 28: 7, which reportedly sailed from Turbo in Antioquia, with five Colombians on board carrying a shipment of drugs.

Thanks to the support of air elements from Colombia, the United States and Panama, a detailed follow-up of the boat and the individuals was carried out, who, upon noticing the work of the authorities, left the illegal merchandise at sea.

Once the Colombian Navy received the information from the United States authorities and the Panamanian National Air and Naval Service (SENAN) regarding the suspicious boat in the waters of the Caribbean Sea, it deployed an aircraft of the Colombian Naval Aviation, which carried out the maritime interception operation with the support of a Surface unit and two Rapid Reaction Units of the Coast Guard, 45 nautical miles north of San Andrés heading for Central America.

The illegal merchandise was recovered of the sea and transported to the San Andrés Coast Guard Station, where the Initial Preliminary Test Approved-PIPH was carried out, leaving positive for 1,535 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.

The arrested persons, the boat and the illicit substance were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office.

This operation was carried out thanks to the operational synergy and joint work in which surface and naval units of the Colombian Navy, air units of the United States and the Panamanian Air and Naval Service participated, and the logistical support of the Caribbean Air Group of the Colombian Air Force, damaged the finances of illegal groups in the service of drug trafficking that commit crimes in the region.
