Within the framework of military search and area control operations, the Colombian Navy reported the finding and controlled destruction of an illegal explosives hideout, in the rural area of Buenaventura, department of Valle de Cauca.
The operation was conducted by troops of Navy Infantry Battalion No. 21, in the Bajo Calima sector, on the banks of the Calima River, where the military units found a matamonte, used as a hiding place for war elements belonging, apparently, to the Residual Organized Armed Group – GAOr- Jaime Martínez.
The troops found ten 80-millimeter-caliber rudimentary grenades, and three 60-millimeter-caliber rudimentary grenades.
According to information from Naval Intelligence, these elements would be used to carry out terrorist acts against the inhabitants and the Military Forces in this village.
Subsequently, the Team of Experts in Explosives and Demolitions –EXDE- carried out the controlled destruction of the thirteen devices, following the established security and safety protocols and with the prior authorization of the judicial authority.
By means of this result, the Colombian Navy neutralizes a direct threat against the security of the inhabitants and the troops, weakening the logistical resources of the organized armed groups that commit crimes in this region.
