Hard blow dealt to drug trafficking in San Andres and Providencia Archipelago.

In the framework of the Bicentenary Strategic Plan Heroes de Libertad against transnational organized crime, the Colombian Navy managed to intercept a fishing ship 280 nautical miles northeast of San Andres Island, in the Colombian territorial sea in Bajo Nuevo.

The successful operation was possible thanks to the detection of a suspected Venezuelan flag motorboat named 'Doña Nelly', manned by 15 individuals from that country, who when detecting the presence of the ARC ship 'Caldas' tried to escape the place.

When carrying out the search procedure on the motorboat, which would have the route from Margarita Island - Venezuela to Honduras, the troops found 88 sacks, which contained 2,335 kilos of a substance, which when verified by the SIJIN staff ( JUDICIAL POLICE) of the National Police, left positive result for cocaine hydrochloride.

Once identified the illegal substance, the individuals and the material were taken to the port of San Andrés, to be put into custody of the authorities.

With this important finding, it was possible to prevent nearly 80 million dollars, the price of the stash in the international illegal market, from entering the financial structures of drug trafficking organizations, weakening their economic capacity.

During the year the Colombian Navy has achieved the discovery of more than 202.7 tons of cocaine, reaffirming its commitment in the fight against drug trafficking and transnational crimes that harm the country and the region.
