In an operation against organizations at the service of drug trafficking that commit crimes in the Colombian Caribbean, in Cartagena, the Colombian Navy discovered 518 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride that were destined for Central America.
The finding was possible, after an inspection carried out on a merchant ship, which was 15 nautical miles north of the city waiting for its entry into the port. The crews received an alert in which they warned that, in the early hours of the morning, they detected strange movements on the boat.
Once the Colombian Sailors were informed of the situation, an expert group was sent to verify the ship, during the inspection it was identified that one of the containers had been tampered with, proceeding to its opening. Inside were found by troops 17 sacks and a briefcase with rectangular packages of substance with characteristics similar to those of this type of drugs.
The material was disembarked and taken to the Cartagena Coast Guard Station, where members of the Technical Investigation Corps -CTI - of the Prosecutor's Office, carried out the approved preliminary identification tests leaving positive result for 518.2 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
This operation against drug trafficking organizations that commit crimes in the Colombian Caribbean represents a loss to the finances of these illegal organizations in more than 17 million dollars, in the same way it was prevented the sale of 1,295,500 doses of cocaine on the international illegal market.
