During river control work in the Orinoco River basin, military personnel managed to recover 50 fish of the type Pterophyllum Scalare, known in Colombia as Pez Escalaris.

The Navy of Colombia reaffirms its commitment to the protection of the environment, so it conducts permanent control work in Eastern Colombia. Thanks to this effort, it managed to recover in the in recent hours, 50 fish Escalaris or Angel Fish, which were being transported on board of a boat bongo by the Orinoco River, which, apparently, had sailed of the sector of Amanaven (Vichada).

This type of fresh water fish is known scientifically as Pterophyllum Scalare and its commercial use occurs mainly in Peru, Colombia and Venezuela because in countries such as the United States and others in Europe, it is considered an exotic animal, for which high sums of money are paid in specialized wildlife baskets.

However, currently the commercialization in Colombia constitutes a violation of the General Statute of Fisheries Law 13 of 1990 and Resolution 1609 of 2017, for example there is ban measures for fishing it in the Orinoco basin from January 01 to June 30 of each year, in order to work for its conservation.

Because of this, the 50 Scalaris fish were recovered and put into custody of the National Authority of Aquaculture and Fisheries - AUNAP, sectional In铆rida (Guain铆a), to be returned to their natural habitat. No arrests were made during the operation.
