The Colombian Navy has intensified its territorial and river control operations in the Calima River, Valle del Cauca, after the Afro-Colombian communities of the municipality of San Isidro, approximately 20 kilometers of the urban center of the District of Buenaventura, gave notice of the work of alleged members of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, in the vicinity of their territory.

According to the information provided by the community, on January 11 of this year, heavily armed men, presumably of the GAO Clan del Golfo, were doing works in the communities of San Isidro and La Esperanza, on the borders of the Calima river, rural area of Buenaventura - Valle del Cauca.

The security operations were strengthened, increasing the number of units with the deployment of a River Battle Group made up of a Patrol of River Support, a Patrol Boat of the River and an Elements of Combat in River, this with the objective of carry out military operations to stop the activities of Organized Armed Groups in the region, in addition to prevent that the same group continue to generate fear and confinement among the inhabitants of these communities.

So, today there will be a Security Council in the Municipality of Buenaventura, which will count on the participation of the District Mayor, the people's Representative for human rights of the District, the Navy of Colombia and the National Police, to assess the current situation of law and order and take joint operation and inter-agency actions necessary for the safety and good physical condition of civilians.
