Colombian Navy intercepts boat with 1.6 tons of cocaine in Colombian Caribbean waters

It is estimated that the value of the cargo would be more than 54 million dollars.

This is one of the largest cocaine hydrochloride finding that have been made in the Colombian Caribbean this year

The Colombian Navy, in development of a joint operation with the Colombian Air Force and coordinated with the National Police, reported the interception of a Go Fast boat with 1.6 tons of cocaine hydrochloride and two individuals on board who intended to take the illegal merchandise to Central America.

The result took place thanks to information from Naval Intelligence and the National Police, who reported detecting a suspicious ship moving over the Gulf of Morrosquillo in the Colombian Caribbean. Immediately, the Colombian Navy went to the area along with a Colombian Air Force aircraft to track the boat.

Once the ship was found, a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coveñas Coast Guard Station reported the interception 10 nautical miles southeast from Tintipan Island. When carrying out the review, it was established that the two individuals of Colombian nationality were transporting 64 sacks with 1,606 rectangular packages apparently containing narcotic substances.

The personnel and the material were taken to the facilities of the Coveñas Coast Guard Station, where officials of the Criminal Investigation Directorate and INTERPOL of the National Police - DIJIN conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Tests to 1,606 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.

In the operation it was possible to find 420 gallons of fuel, communications equipment and 1,758,000 Colombian pesos in cash. The material found and the arrested individuals were put into custody of the National Police (DIJIN) for prosecution.

The drug that apparently belonged to the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, would have a cost of over $ 54 million dollars, which would be product of the marketing and distribution of four million doses in the international illegal market; a figure that thanks to the decisive operations by the Naval Force of the Caribbean, will not enter the finances of these drug trafficking organizations.

In the year 2022, the Caribbean Naval Force has found more than 23 tons of cocaine hydrochloride in national and international operations, which represents a great loss in the finances of drug trafficking organizations, thwarting their criminal operations.
