Units of the Colombian Navy attached to the Specific Command of San Andres and Providencia in support of the Nicaraguan Army, have intensified the search and rescue work for five Nicaraguan soldiers, who were sailing in a boat of the Naval Force of that country, whose whereabouts are unknown since the last 9 August, when they lost communication with the authorities, when they were conducting rescue work in area of the Caribbean Sea.

Once the request for support was received from the Nicaraguan authorities, the Colombian Navy began to deploy Coast Guard units from San Andr茅s and Providencia, which since August 12 have been supporting the search, in coordination with the Capitan铆as de Puerto de San Andr茅s y Providencia and the ARC Antioquia Missile Frigate.

Likewise, men from the Naval Military Police Battalion No. 11 support the operation with permanent presence in the Naval checkpoints, located in the islands of Cayo de Albuquerque, Bol铆var, Serrana, Serranilla and Roncador.

With this operational effort, the Naval institution joins the efforts of military authorities from other countries, including the National Coast Guard of the Republic of Costa Rica, the National Air Service of the Republic of Panama and the United States Coast Guard, that have carried out maritime and air patrols to establish the whereabouts of the five soldiers.
