Within the framework of the Joint Strategic Campaign Plan Ayacucho Plus, units of the Colombian Navy, in coordination with the National Police, intensified river control operations in the department of Guainía, and directly hit illegal mining that damage ecosystems and regional security.
Consolidated results of operations carried out in January and February 2026, show that 09 Mining Production Units (PUMS) have been eliminated, which were used for the illicit extraction of minerals. In these operations, engines, pumps, hoses, dredgers, rotors, fuel and other key precursors for these illegal activities have been seized. Similarly, approximately more than 12,000 gallons of fuel have been found, hitting the financial logistics of illegal networks.
The operations were especially concentrated in river areas near Inírida and Barrancominas, the department of Guainía, strategic routes where the permanent control of the rivers has been decisive for these results.
The strengthening of patrols, inspections of ships and review of documentation has managed to detect illegal transportation of machinery, supplies and structures used for the illicit exploitation of mining sites, preventing greater environmental impacts.
Through these operations, Colombian navy contribute to protecting the rivers and ecosystems of the Amazon and the Orinoquia, weaken illegal activities that hit territorial stability and strengthen the security and trust of coastal communities.
The items were put into custody of the authorities, including the Attorney General's Office, for the corresponding judicial processes.
The Colombian Navy reiterates its commitment to environmental protection, territorial security and the fight against illegal mining, maintaining sustained operations for the full presence of the State in strategic areas of the country.
