Surface, Coast Guard and Naval Aviation units from more than 14 countries participated in the third exercise Event Horizon an operation that will culminate on January 26.
The Colombian Navy participated with the ship ARC 20 de Julio, the first Ocean Patrol Ship of its type built in Colombia.
The HMJS George William Gordon, a Jamaican ship, arrived in the island of San Andres after its participation in the exercises.
The Colombian Navy, through units of the Caribbean Naval Force and the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia, participated in the third of Operation Event Horizon, a multinational naval training exercise that takes place in the common zone between Jamaica and Colombia, whose main objective is to strengthen interoperability against transnational crime and disaster response in the Caribbean region.
On board the ship ARC 20 de Julio, and with the accompaniment of a Rapid Reaction Unit - URR of the Coast Guard, the Colombian Navy carried out a combined exercise with the Jamaican Defense Force and its HMJS Unit George William Gordon, who carry out maneuvers and sea control exercises, which tested the response capacity of the crews to face crimes such as drug trafficking.
It should be noted that, once the exercise was completed, the HMJS George William Gordon, arrived in the island of San Andrés, being the first time that a unit of the Jamaican Defense Force docks in the Archipelago department, this in order to know this strategic region in the island territory and continue consolidating cooperation relations of both countries.
The Commander of the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia, Rear Admiral Alfonso Córdoba García, said “It is an exercise in which, in order to strengthen the ties of interoperability, we share information and exchange knowledge to, if necessary, operate together successfully."
"Event Horizon" has established as one of the most important military operation exercises in the Caribbean, testing the degree of preparation of the units and their crew members, aiming for comprehensive maritime security and the improvement of communication channels at sea.
The Colombian Navy will continue to participate in spaces that promote the synergy of the military operation and international cooperation, maintaining relations with allied countries, which led strengthening defense and sovereignty resources in the region.
