In the emblematic Cerro El Cable, in the Eastern Hills of Bogotá, crew members of the Colombian Navy, accompanied a great ecological restoration activity, led by the Mayor's Office of Bogotá, in which 1,400 native trees were planted, greening with hope, this vital conservation area for the capital city of the country.
Through this operation, it was sought to reforest approximately 35 hectares, an area hit by the forest fires that occurred a year ago, leaving a palpable environmental scar on the capital's landscape.
The initiative, led by the Mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán Pachón and the District Secretariat of Environment, counted on the active participation of the Naval Institution, through the Navy Infantry Battalion No. 70, as well as the National Police, the Civil Defense and the Bogotá Fire Department, among other environmental institutions.
The choice of native specimens for reforestation responds to a technical study that seeks to promote the adaptation and sustainable growth of trees in the local ecosystem. In addition to the planting, long-term monitoring and care strategies will be implemented to ensure the full recovery of the area.
It should be noted that, with the planting of these 1,400 trees, progress is being made in the restoration of 1,300 hectares of the Eastern Hills, which represents 10% of its extension.
