Authorities from Colombia, Brazil and Peru strengthened coordination mechanisms against transnational threats in the Amazon region.
The Amazon Naval Force reaffirmed its commitment to border security and the protection of river communities.
In order to strengthen international cooperation and consolidate joint strategies against transnational organized crime in the Amazon region, the Colombian Navy, through the Amazon Naval Force, participated in the Sixth Tripartite Meeting on Law Enforcement Implementation in the Amazon Basin, an environment of coordination among authorities of Colombia, Brazil and Peru.
The Colombian delegation was headed by Rear Admiral Alfonso Córdoba García, Commander of the Naval Force of the Amazon, accompanied by crew members of this Unit, who participated in meetings aimed at analyzing the results of the military operation, the exchange of strategic information and the strengthening of coordinated actions to confront the threats that affect this border area.
During the meeting, the authorities addressed issues related to the current dynamics of drug trafficking, illicit activities and the new modalities used by transnational criminal organizations, especially those that use strategic river routes of the triple border for the trafficking of narcotics, weapons, fuel and other related crimes.
In the same way, coordination, interoperability and cooperation mechanisms conducted by the participating forces were reviewed, with the aim of optimizing the response capacity against emerging criminal phenomena and strengthening the interception, territorial control and protection operations of the communities settled in the Amazon region.
The participation of the Colombian Navy in this type of strategic environments ratifies the institutional commitment to regional security, the defense of national sovereignty and the coordinated work with allied countries to effectively combat the criminal structures that commit crimes in the Amazon.
