Through this activity, six hectares have been reforested and 7,000 trees have been planted last year.
In an action that strengthens environmental protection in the Orinoquía region, the Colombian Navy led a reforestation activity in the department of Vichada, where 1,370 native trees were planted in an area of 1.25 hectares of the Jabalí Rojo military base, in Puerto Carreño, in an area near the banks of the Bita River, declared a Ramsar site for its international ecological importance.
The activity, which was carried out since the early hours of the day, was carried out by Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and navy units of the Orinoquia Naval Force with the accompaniment of experts in forestry and environmental engineering, as well as allies of the private sector, working to carry out an appropriate technical process for the establishment of the planted specimens.
For the navy, participating in the tree planting activity has been an enriching experience that complements their military service with an operation that leaves a mark on the Orinoquía region. During the activity, a 3 x 3 meter planting methodology was implemented, along with the use of fertilizers and root stimulants, which will strengthen the growth of the trees in conditions typical to the region.
The proximity to this strategic ecosystem increases the impact of the initiative, since it contributes to the protection of one of the best preserved watersheds in Colombia, favoring water regulation, biodiversity conservation and ecological connectivity in the region.
This intervention seeks to recover degraded areas, strengthen vegetation cover and protect natural resources, in the same way contributing to the retaining of carbon dioxide, the mitigation of climate change and the preservation of key habitats for specimens of fauna and flora.
"Environmental protection is in the same way part of the mission. Every tree we plant is a hope for the future of the country,” said the commander of Naval Base No. 5 ARC Orinoquía.
The planting of native specimens will strengthen the intervened ecosystems to be more resilient and sustainable, generating long-term benefits for communities and the natural environment.
This activity was carried out within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Joint Strategic Campaign Plan, with which the Colombian Navy progresses in actions that integrate security, development and sustainability in strategic regions of the country.
Through this type of initiatives, the Colombian Navy reaffirms its commitment to the protection of the environment and the well-being of future generations.
