Within the framework of two operations, 1,096 kilograms of marijuana and 500 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were seized.
More than 1.4 million doses of narcotics won’t circulating on the international illicit market.
Three Colombians were arrested.
The Colombian Navy, within the framework of comprehensive maritime control and security operations, and with the support of the Joint Interagency Task Force of the Southern Command of the United States – JIATFS –, reported the seizure of 1.5 tons of narcotics that were transported aboard two go fast type ships in Colombian Pacific waters. The shipment would have a cost close to 35 million dollars in the international illicit market.
The operation was carried out by units of the Bahía Solano Coast Guard Station, in the department of Chocó, thanks to information provided by Naval Intelligence, which leads to the identification of the suspicious movement of two boats in the North Pacific.
During the maritime interception procedure of the first ship, two individuals of Colombian nationality and 43 sacks of different colors were found by troops, inside there were 2,112 rectangular packages with alleged illicit substances. Both the personnel and the confiscated items were taken to the Coast Guard Station of Bahía Solano to carry out the corresponding procedures.
In the second maritime interception operation, Colombian Navy units found a double bottom on another ship, where 500 rectangular packages with suspected narcotics were being transported. During the procedure, one of the individuals, sought by the authorities, had a medical emergency, so he received immediate assistance of the staff at the operation and was subsequently evacuated to a healthcare center. Later, the medical authorities pronounce his death.
Officials of the Criminal Investigation Section – SIJÍN –, through the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, identified that the first shipment corresponded to 1,096 kilograms of marijuana and the second to 500 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
The arrested and the confiscated items were put into custody of the authorities to continue with the respective judicial process.
Through this result of the military operation, a direct loss to the transnational crime structures specialized in drug trafficking and its related crimes was possible, in the same way preventing the commercialization of more than 1.4 million doses of illicit substances in different international markets.
