Colombian Navy provides assistance to people hit by rain wave in Putumayo

More than 100 Colombian Navy men work to help the Putumayo community during the current rain wave in the department.

 

In the municipalities of Puerto Assis and Puerto Ospina, (Putumayo), the Navy of Colombia has provided humanitarian assistance to more than 800 families who have been harmed by the overflow of the Putumayo River in the region, tagging them to safe shelters designated by the municipal authorities, near the docks Amarillo and Hong Kong, to safeguard their lives.

 

Troops of the River Navy Battalion No.30, attached to the Southern Naval Force, work 24 hours to help families who left their flooded homes and rescue their most important belongings, in order to move to safe places while the Putumayo River level returns to normal.

 

In the municipality of Muelle Brisas del Hong Kong in the municipality of Puerto As铆s, in operation coordinated with the National Police and the Municipal Government, Colombian Navy troops in the early hours of Yesterday provided humanitarian assistance to two women along with their three minor children, one of them in a with disabilities, who were rescued from their house due to damage caused by floods.

 

The Governor of the department (provisional) 脕lvaro Graja Buchelli, decreed public calamity because 12 municipalities and more than 10 thousand families are harmed by the heavy rainy season in the region. The Naval Institution actively participates in the Unified Command posts and Risk Management Committees, in order to coordinate efforts, deploying human and logistical resources for the response to this emergency.
