With the humanitarian assistance operation called Akalijaa, a term in Wayuunaiki that means help, it is expected to benefit more than a thousand members of this community.
The Colombian Navy, in coordination with Colombian National Army, public and private institutions, and authorities of the Department of La Guajira, is leading a campaign of humanitarian assistance and support to the civil authority, in the municipality of Karas煤a, more than 500 kilometers of the municipal seat of Uribia, in Alta Guajira, with the aim of bringing well-being and comprehensive development to the Way煤u inhabitants, who live in this region of northern Colombia, benefiting more than a thousand of its members.
On board the ARC Golfo of Urab谩, a naval unit, with specialized resources for this type of humanitarian assistance operations, approximately 130 tons of aid sailed from Riohacha, distributed in basic need products and groceries, including food, toilet kits and drinking water, whose final destination is the Ethno-School Madre Laura, a school that has about 800 students, children, adolescents and young Way煤u, who live and study in this place.
As part of the activities programmed within the framework of this humanitarian assistance, the installation of the first stone of an educational classroom was carried out, which will be built during the year 2025 in the I.E. Madre Laura, as part of the commitments to this community, obtained during the last year, and which in the same way was seen the construction of a drinking water plant and a windmill; projects that seek to promote the use of renewable energies and work to provide an appropriate educational space for the youngest members of the community, contributing to the sustainable development of Alta Guajira.
For the project of the educational classroom, which will be built with the support of the Colombia Aseo Foundation, more than 40 tons of cargo were transported by land, aboard Navy Infantry Mobility Battalion vehicles, including construction material and elements of equipment for the classroom, such as computers, desks, chairs, tables, school kits, boards and power generators.
These types of campaigns not only represent a sample of the Colombian Navy's commitment to the most vulnerable communities, but in the same way its comprehensive approach complementary to the defense and security mission. Through these initiatives, the Naval Institution not only strengthens the social fabric in remote regions, but in the same way promotes trust and development in areas that have historically faced difficulties in accessing basic services.
