Colombian Navy reaffirms its social commitment with indigenous communities of the Amazonas department

Armada de Colombia reafirma su compromiso social con comunidades indígenas del Amazonas

As part of the strengthening of institutional activity and the consolidation of the State in strategic areas of the south of the country, the Colombian Navy, through the Coast Guard Group of the Amazon, led an Activity to Support the indigenous people of San Martín de Amacayacu, in the department of Amazonas, benefiting 500 inhabitants.

The activity managed to provide more than 420 health services, institutional guidance and prevention services, benefiting adults, older adults and children of these towns of the Amazon River. Among the services provided, assistance in dentistry, blood pressure monitoring, accompaniment in family and human rights issues, as well as preventive talks in public health and child protection took place.

Additionally, 250 school kits, 5,400 units of food supplement and 200 environmental health kits were distributed, among other essential elements, contributing to the strengthening of the educational environment and the improvement of the living conditions of the inhabitants.

This activity was possible thanks to the coordinated work conducted by the Colombian Navy, Colombian National Army, the Colombian Aerospace Force, the Children and Adolescents Police, the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing, ICBF, and institutions of the departmental and municipal order, as well as organizations of the health and social sector, demonstrating that unified State action is fundamental to generate sustainable heavy blow in the most remote territories of the country.

Through this type of initiatives, the Colombian Navy not only strengthens river control and security in the Amazon River, but reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive development, territorial stability and the protection of the indigenous communities that inhabit this strategic region of the nation.
