The timely reaction of units of the Colombian Navy led to the rescue of five indigenous people of Venezuelan nationality, who had shipwrecked in the Orinoco River, near Puerto Carreño – Vichada.
After the emergency call made by the people to the Navy Infantry Units that were conducting search and river control patrols in the area, reporting on the wreck of a canoe-type boat, a search and rescue operation was activated that led to safeguarding the lives of four adults and a child under five belonging to the Sikuani indigenous people, who minutes earlier had set sail from Puerto Ayacucho, Amazonas State, in Venezuela.
Immediately the personnel of the Colombian Navy moved to the scene of the events, finding in the sector known as Punta Lajas the foreigners, who were clinging to the boat and their belongings.
Once the people were brought to safety in military and civilian boats of inhabitants who supported the rescue, the state of health was verified and later some of their belongings that were scattered in the river were recovered. The rescued and the material were transported to the urban area of Puerto Carreño - Vichada.
