"I really thank the Colombian Navy for coming to help us; we were stuck in the ocean and the unit arrived very quickly, they are great, they really know what they are doing:” said James Clark one of the rescued crew members.
The search and rescue operation began when the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés received an emergency call via the Navy VHF from a ship that was drifting approximately 14 kilometers northwest of the island of Providencia.
Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit – URR was deployed, which found the ship named HOSPUR with three crew members on board, who stated that they have had failures in the propulsion system, a situation that prevented them from staying the course.
Once the visit procedure was carried out, and the machinery and the health of the crew members were verified, they were taken along with their boat by the Naval Institution to the anchorage area of Providencia, where the US citizens thanked the Colombian Navy for the effective response to provide support in the emergency.
The Colombian Navy, through the Caribbean Naval Force and the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia, will continue to make use of its resources to safeguard human life at sea. In the same way, it calls on the inhabitants to take extreme safety measures and check the conditions of the boats before departure.
