On the boat were eight adults and six children belonging to the indigenous communities of Bojay谩, who made the Bellavista route (Department of Choc贸) to Vig铆a del Fuerte.

In search and control operations, river units of the Colombian Navy reported the rescue of 14 indigenous people, eight adults and six minors, who were traveling in a canoe-type boat, who suffered a rollover due to a heavy wave over the Atrato River in the sector of Vig铆a Fuerte (Antioquia).

Crewmen of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.16, attached to the Joint Task Force Titan that sailed through this important tributary, were alerted by the call for help about the shipwrecked, so they immediately went to the scene, where they rescued the shipwrecked in their entirety and later took them aboard the river Unit to safe harbor in the municipality of Vig铆a del Fuerte, to verify their health.

The upper and middle areas of the Atrato River are home to Embera Dobida indigenous communities who have historically inhabited this area and live from agricultural activities and fishing, while the lower areas of the river mouth are inhabited by Afro-descendant communities.
